History of Moffat Volunteer Fire Department

The Moffat Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1980 by members of the Moffat Jaycee’s. The founding of the department was not supported by the entire community, but the efforts of supporters prevailed. In the early days, the department consisted of one old firetruck and a few volunteers. Without a station, the truck was stored at various members’ houses and later in the barns of supportive community members. Training was conducted in the homes of the members and occasionally with the Belton Fire Department.

The first fire station, that is still used today, was built on small lot donated by Alex and Rhoda Brown. A second building was constructed in 1994 to hold more apparatus and serve as a social hall. This expansion has enabled the Fire Department to hold community events and fundraisers over the years. As The community of Moffat has change over time the Volunteer Fire Department has remained a cornerstone of community activity.

Over the last 43 years many volunteers have left an impact on the community and the fire department. The current volunteers strive to continue and build upon the legacy of those that have come before. The Moffat Volunteer Fire Department has been and will continue to be the place………
